Comprehensive Guide to Installation and Maintenance of Industrial Large Fans: Ensuring Ten Years of Optimal Fan Performance

Company News,Industry Insights

Installation quality determines everything.

A properly designed industrial large fan can have a service life exceeding 10 years; however, in practical operation, many fans develop abnormal noises, wobbling, or even blade deformation within 3–5 years, with these issues often stemming from the installation phase. This article provides a comprehensive guide, covering everything from pre-installation preparation to routine maintenance.

I. Three essential items to verify before installation

1. Roof load capacity: The total weight of the fan unit is approximately 80–150 kg; when accounting for the dynamic load during operation, the lifting points must withstand a safety factor of at least 3. For steel-structure workshops, the specifications of the main beams must be verified; for concrete-structure workshops, the reinforcement of the floor slabs must be verified.

2. Clearance Height: The lowest point of the blades shall be no less than 3.5 meters above the ground, and no less than 0.5 meters above any overhead obstacles. If the plant contains lighting fixtures, pipelines, or cable trays, appropriate clearance must be maintained in advance.

3. Power Supply and Control: Each fan shall have its own independent power circuit, and each fan shall be equipped with a variable frequency drive (VFD) controller. When multiple fans are centrally managed, a smart group control system may be additionally installed.

II. Key Milestones in the Installation Process

A professional installation team will utilize aerial work platforms or scaffolding for lifting operations; the key steps include:

· Secure the lifting base plate to the roof main beams using a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the specified torque values.

· Install safety steel cables, with each cable securely fastened to the structure individually; shared lifting points are prohibited.

· Connect the motor to the boom and check coaxiality.

· Install the blades one by one, and tighten the bolts in a diagonal sequence.

· Before energization, manually rotate the drive mechanism three times to confirm that there are no jams or scraping noises.

· Perform a 30-minute low-speed trial run to measure vibration and noise levels, then gradually accelerate to the rated speed.

III. Routine Maintenance Checklist (Monthly/Quarterly/Annually)

Monthly inspection:

· Listen: Are there any abnormal friction noises or metallic knocking sounds during operation?

· Inspection: Check the blade surface for dust accumulation, deformation, or cracks.

· Inspection: Verify that the motor housing temperature is within normal limits (not exceeding the ambient temperature by more than 40 °C).

Quarterly maintenance:

· Clean the blade surface of dust, as accumulated dust can disrupt dynamic balance.

· Check the tension of the steel cable; the steel cable shall not exhibit significant slack.

· Inspect all bolts for looseness, particularly the bolts connecting the blades to the motor.

Annual maintenance:

· Conduct comprehensive dynamic balance testing by qualified technical personnel

· Check the motor’s insulation resistance and the wiring terminals

· Test whether the frequency converter and its protection functions are operating correctly

· Record operational data and establish equipment records

IV. In such cases, the equipment must be shut down immediately for inspection.

· The fan exhibits noticeable vibration or abnormal noise while operating.

· Cracks on the blade surface or edge damage

· The motor housing temperature rises abnormally, or a burnt odor is detected.

· Control box alarm or trip

In the event of any of the above situations, please immediately disconnect the power supply and contact a qualified service technician; do not operate the equipment while it is faulty.
